Center fielder, Atlanta Braves system. Currently with the High-A Rome Emperors.
Stock Update
Hartman has jumped from No. 16 to No. 4 on our latest Braves prospects board. The full breakout writeup is in our May 2026 feature.
Scouting Report
Eric Hartman entered pro ball as one of the more athletic players in his draft class, with most of the prospect shine tied to his legs and his defensive profile in center. Plus runner with a feel for routes, the kind of outfielder who never looks rushed on a deep fly. The bat was the open question. Plenty of contact ability, an honest approach, but not a profile that screamed impact production at the plate.
That has changed in a hurry in 2026. Through 124 at-bats with the Rome Emperors, Hartman is hitting .331 with a 1.127 OPS, 12 home runs, 9 doubles, and 13 stolen bases. The speed and defense scouting reports were already there. The power output is brand new, and it is what has bumped him this far up the board.
What He Does Well
- Speed: Plus runner who can change games on the bases and cover real ground in center.
- Center field defense: Reads and routes that profile to stick up the middle long term.
- Contact: Has always made consistent contact, the bat-to-ball foundation was never in question.
- Emerging power: A leg-kick adjustment and added strength have unlocked legitimate game power.
What Still Has to Prove Out
- High-A is High-A. Double-A pitching is the next test, and that is where prospect status really gets earned.
- The home run pace is going to come down. The real question is what the slugging looks like once it does.
- Approach against quality breaking stuff will get a much harder look as he climbs.
2026 Statline (Through 124 AB)
- AVG: .331
- OPS: 1.127
- Hits: 41
- Home Runs: 12
- Doubles: 9
- Stolen Bases: 13
Outlook
Hartman has moved into the conversation as one of the more interesting position-player prospects in a system that has badly needed one. If the bat holds up against tougher arms in Mississippi, he goes from intriguing breakout name to a real piece of Atlanta's future outfield picture. If it does not, the speed and the glove still play, and the floor is meaningfully higher than it was a year ago.
