Scouting Report: Waldrep

Waldrep is a star. At least, has star potential. His slider is one of the most devastating pitches in his class, his slider is unhittable. When, of course, he doesn’t hang it.

Info

Waldrep attended Thomasville High School in Thomasville, Georgia, where he played baseball as a pitcher and football as a kicker and punter. Following high school, he had a standout college career, initially at Southern Mississippi and then transferring to the University of Florida. During his time at Florida, Waldrep helped lead the team to the finals of the College World Series and was known for his impressive strikeout rates, achieving a program-record 13.8 strikeouts per nine innings.

Hurston Wayne Waldrep, born on March 1, 2002, in Cairo, Georgia, is a right-handed pitcher in the Atlanta Braves organization.

Given his rapid rise through the minors in 2023, it wouldn’t be surprising to see him called up in 2024. If not, he’s a surefire competitor for a rotation job in 2025.

One of the clear favorites to lead Atlanta in callups in 2024, Smith Sawver showed flashes of brilliance and susceptibility that mad him spend more time in the minors to begin the 2024 season.

4.6/5

With an explosive fastball that pops the catcher’s mitt, Schwellenbach can sling it. His Slider projects as a plus pitch at the next level. After that things get a little dicey.

Teams loved the 2022 first round pick who chose to play for the Braves instead of being a two way player at Notre Dame. A fastball that sis in the low 90s, his stuff has a way to go if wants to get outs at the big league level.
